Adding improper fractions with unlike, or different
denominators
Adding improper fractions with unlike, or different
denominators.
Example: Add these improper fractions with unlike denominators.
step1: You need to find the least common denominator (LCD)
of the two fractions.
In this case the LCD is 12.
step2: Know write two equivalent fractions using 12 as the
LCD.
step3: Know that you can show that both fractions have
12 as their common denominator (LCD) you can add their
numerators together and put the sum over the common
denominator.
Note: As you can see improper fractions with unlike denominators is added the same way as proper Fractions with Unlike Denominators.
