Comparing Fractions
When we compare we want to determine whether the fractions are equivalent,
or if one is greater than the other.
or if one is greater than the other.
| If the denominators of two fractions are the same, the fraction with the largest numerator is the larger fraction. For example 5/8 is larger than 3/8 because all of the pieces are the same and five pieces are more than three pieces. |
Comparing Fractions When the denominators and numerators are different

If the Numerators are the same,then the fraction with the smaller denominator is

Compare the fraction 2/4 and 4/6 which is larger ?
12 is the least common multiple of 4 and 6.
Use 12 for the common denominator.
2/4 x 3/3 = 6/12
4/6 x 2/2 = 8/12
