What is a fraction ?
Types of Fractions
Proper Fractions  
Proper fractions have the numerator part smaller than the denominator part,
for example:




Improper Fractions  
Improper fractions have the numerator part greater or equal to the denominator part,
for example:




Mixed Fractions
Mixed fractions have a whole number plus a fraction, for example:
There are 3 different types of fractions:
When an object is divided into a number of equal parts then each part is called a
fraction.
The top part of the fraction is called the numerator
and is also referred to as the dividend of the fraction.
The bottom part is called the denominator and is
also referred to as the divisor of the fraction.
Example:

Buttom - Denominator
A cake with one quarter removed. The
remaining three quarters are shown.
For example, the fraction 3⁄4 could be used to represent three
equal parts of a whole object, were it divided into four equal parts.

Because it is impossible to divide something into zero equal parts, zero can never
be the denominator of a fraction.
