Ordering Fractions

Ordering Fractions is arranging the fractions from least
to greatest or from greatest to least. The order may be
ascending (getting larger in value) or descending
(becoming smaller in value).

 

Example 1

Order the fractions 5/6,  3/4,   1/2,  1/5 from least to greatest.

This simply means to put these fractions in order from the
smallest fraction to the largest fraction.

Answer:   1/5, 1/2, 3/4, 5,6

The order is ascending (getting larger in value)

 

Example 2

Write the following fractions from greatest to least

1/6, 1/3, 2/3

Answer: 2/3, 1/3, 1/6

The order is ascending descending (becoming smaller in value).
